Students Forgo Trips for Charity

From the 1/28/10 issue of the Centre Daily Times...

How many people would give up a well-deserved vacation for which they'd been saving all year in order to help others? At least 17.

That’s the number of students in LifeLink PSU, the State College Area School District’s program for 18-to 21-year-old students with special needs. The group decided to give up the vacation in the Bahamas that they began planning last year. Instead, they’re going to continue to raise money that will instead go to Haiti relief efforts.

“I just think it’s the right thing to do,” said Kevin Todd.

Todd, who as a child was adopted after a natural disaster, said it wasn’t a tough decision for him.

“We can go to the Bahamas any other time in our lives,” he said. “These people need the money.”
