NOMINATION INSTRUCTIONS
for
DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD
as established by
STATE COLLEGE AREA HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
AWARD PURPOSE: The purpose of the Distinguished Alumnus Award is: "To recognize the accomplishments of alumni of SCAHS whose personal lives, occupational achievements, and services to their communities and others exemplify the standard of excellence to which our alumni aspire."
AWARD PROCESS: A Selection Committee annually solicits profiles of alumni suitable for consideration for the Distinguished Alumnus Award and, using the criteria contained in the Association’s Guidelines for Voting, forwards the top-ranked profiles to members of the Voting Committee (Association Directors, Trustees, and Selection Committee members) who, by utilizing the same criteria, make the final determination of none, one, or two worthy award recipients for the upcoming year.
A. The sponsor of a nomination must be a graduate of State College High School, State College Area High School, or any high school consolidated at any time into the school district serving the State College area (hereafter “SCAHS”). In this context, "graduate" is defined as a person having received a diploma from SCAHS. It is permissible for a SCAHS graduate to sponsor (nominate) himself or herself.
B. The nominee must be an alumnus of SCAHS. In this context, "alumnus" is defined as a person having been enrolled a minimum of any two (2) entire academic years of grades 9, 10, 11, or 12. The nominee may be living or deceased.
C. Members of the Association’s Selection Committee and Voting Committee have limited time and few resources to collect information on, or fully investigate, the background of a nominee. To permit a speedy and meaningful review of a nomination, including balanced appraisals among all nominees, as much as possible of the information indicated in Section 3 of the Nomination Form should be submitted.
